Huggies Total Protection, are you up for the challenge??

Standard

No doubt Mamy Poko looks comfortable to wear, but after a few pieces, there was some suspicious rashes around the I’m-not-going-to-mention-where 🙂 so, we decided to try out other brands.

So we went to Tesco few days ago, stood in front of diaper shelves for awhile, and came across Huggies Total Protection with good discounted price, we heard about this brand before and thinking, why not?

Finally, we went home with a pack of Size M {I’m not sure if there is any size S around}, 64 pieces, RM34.90 {amazingly cheap for what they claim – to prevent 5 signs of skin irritants: Redness, Roughness, Rashes, Sensitivity and Itchiness}.

At least now after a few pieces, rashes is gone!! {YIPPIE}

The waistband looks comfortable, and feel the same when we touch it.

Even though the color combination of the diaper looks a bit dull, not colorful enough to match the vibrant red of its packaging, the plus point for the color combination is, besides the urine weighing down the diaper, the transparent-like material making it easier for me to ‘see through’ whether it’s time to change the diaper.

So far, I’m happy with Huggies Total Protection [though I’m not the one who is wearing it :-p]

P/S : I thought Tesco price is discounted, but actually it’s selling at the same price at Jaya Grocer, Damansara Perdana, and later I found out it’s cheaper by RM1 at 99 Speedmart!!

A day in Penang…

Standard

Tata Vistana hotel @ 9am

My very happy mommy!!

Reached The Snake temple @ 10am

The Snake Temple has renovated nicely for the tourists...

I heard from many saying that The Snake Temple has fewer snakes these days, & prior to reaching, I still carried the visual of my 19-years-ago’s visit.

Surprisingly, it’s no longer looking old, dark, or anytime might collapse.

One thing I don’t quite get is, okie, 2 things :

1) The photography session with snakes;

2) The snake exhibition.

The “snake” theme is definitely there, but are they being misused?

“The temple was built circa 1850 in memory of Chor Soo Kong, a Buddhist monk from Fujian, China, who moved to Penang. Chor Soo Kong was born with the Tan surname in China during the Song Dynasty (960-1279). He was very serious about spiritual attainment and was ordained at a young age. Legend has it that Chor Soo Kong, who was also a healer, gave shelter to the snakes of jungle. When he died at the age of 65 after a lifetime of good deeds, he was bestowed the honorific title Chor Soo, meaning an eminent historic figure continuously revered by a community generation after generation.”

Sadly, some snakes there are simply…

1) Being a slave to be photographed with tourists, for money;

2) Being showcased daily, for money.

Is this what Chor Soo Kong foreseeing? I bet his rare ability to heal people back then was a gift to FREE people from illnesses, & giving shelter to the snakes of jungle doesn’t mean they were being captured & caged, they were probably FREE to go whenever they feel like it.

1)Do they keep the money solely for temple maintenance?

2) If not, how much extra they’ve made out of these?

3) And when are they going to stop hassling these snakes?

Reached Wat Chayamangkalaram, Thai Buddhist temple @ 11am

[After a few wrong turns, finally we were there!!]

In front of Wat Chayamangkalaram & posing with the reclining Buddha.

Right across the street is the Burmese Buddhist temple.

Not forgetting to have fun @ Burmese Buddhist temple...

Sonu was fascinated reading about how Buddhism spread to Southeast Asia, & how it’s linked to Hinduism.

Wish to spend more time @ Kek Lok Si, feeling the serenity..

Spotted a few hawker stalls near the Penang Hill’s roundabout exit.

Duck noodle with pathetic number of duck meat slices & fruit rojak before we leave Penang...

Love papa's idea to take the ferry instead of the bridge...

Our jaws dropped at the price we paid, it was RM1.30/vehicle.

I’m confused as the price should be RM7.70/vehicle.

[Anyways… it was a good ride, especially knowing papa must be reminiscing his good “young’ time working in Penang island.]

Left Butterworth @ 6pm

Highway was crowded but still moving smoothly, until we’ve passed Taping Zoo exit.

That’s when the nightmare has begun.

We were stuck in the crawling [& stopping] jam for 4 hours.

Mom asked to stop at the next rest stop, it was 5km away.

We were confident that we won’t take too long to reach there despite the crawling, jokingly papa & I were saying maybe mom has to start thinking about other options if we couldn’t reach there on time.

!!For crying out loud!!

We reached Sg. Perak rest stop @ 10:47pm

It took about an hour for the 5km crawl.

[NO KIDDING]

And we have to suck it up as we found out it’s all because of the jam in this particular rest stop that causing the 2-lane highway super duper long crawl.

Left Sg. Perak rest stop @ 12am

{After we downed the burgers, fried rice, Nescafe, Redbull!!}

Thank goodness, unbelievable smooth traffic.

Reached home @ 2am

[Without speeding recklessly, thanks Sonu ]

Perak, Penang we’re coming!!

Standard

Dim sum @ Jin Xuan [AGAIN!!]

Reached Ipoh @ 11:30am [skeptically trusting our phone’s Ms. Garmin]

Sam Poh Tong - our very 1st "Tong"

1st of all – Yes, it was really extremely boiling hot in Ipoh.

Note : Sam Poh Tong is very beautiful from outside, the inside is still very much looking like a cave.

Nan Tian Tong - our 2nd "Tong" next to Sam Poh Tong

Note : Papa & I think that some parts of Nan Tian Tong should preserve a bit more of its cave-look, even though it doesn’t lose the cool, breezy feel, but it loses the nature-cave feel.

Sonu was [& still is] extremely intrigued by this “Tong” because of its mixed of Taoist – Buddhist temple, unlike Buddhist temple, most of the Taoist deities we’re not exposed to.

He thinks it’s mysterious.

Flooded with his constant “Who is this?” – “Who is that?”, my brain froze, I was like “Maybe this is….” – “Don’t know wor” – “Let’s find out later”.

Excited like a kid seeing new thing, I know he wasn’t quite ready to stop asking. So I told him to photograph as many deities statues as possible & I’ll find out their origin.

!!Yippie!!

Ling Sen Tong - our 3rd "Tong" next to Nan Tian Tong...

Note : Dare I say Lin Sen Tong is a very theme-park-like temple with colorful statues for people to pose for photo. It’s a bit commercialized for me.

It has so many contribution ‘bowls’ for people to put/throw in money.

[I know I shouldn’t say this, but sometimes it appears to be quite a profitable “business”.] → For example, 12 Chinese Zodiac statues placed behind a grille, each designed with a bowl for people to make wish then throw the money [coin] into the bowl.

Nothing wrong with it but there are some people persistently try & try again until one of their {many} coins landed in the bowl, so that their wish/es will come truer than true?

Come on, you still have to work hard for whatever wishes you wished.

🙂

Perak Tong - our very last & favorite "Tong" - not next to the other 3 "Tong"s...

Note : Love Perak Tong, it’s well managed & the nature is maintained, the sunlight pierced through some openings into the cave gives the darkness the natural light.

It’s serene.

There, papa, Sonu & I climbed up the hundreds steps to reach to the top.

Mom & 大姑 waited for us half way.

Overrated. Overcrowded.

If we’ve choice next time, most likely we won’t go back to this place.

[We don’t mind try out Ong Kee or Onn Kee, all those wannabes nearby.]

The baked Japanese sweet potatoes mom bought from a mobile seller is worth its RM9.

[MORE MORE MORE MORE MORE MORE]

The Gai Zai Peng [雞仔餅] we bought from another mobile seller is thumbs up as well, RM10 for 4 packs.

Bye Bye Ipoh @ 3:30pm

Reached Penang bridge toll @ 5ish pm

*[Crawled for more than 1/2 hour]*

@#!^$%Cursing#@#(*^$%

[Only come to know about the fire on Penang bridge the next day from brother in Muar.]

Tried to reach for sunset by 7:18pm

@ Tanjung Bungah - missed the sunset...

We were 10 mins late.

~Relaxing~

Dinner @ Gurney drive

[SUCKS big time because we had to FIGHT for tables, people STOLE our stools before our eyes, the beverage boss lectured me & papa for not guarding out stools, oh & the wait for food is not worth the every penny we spent.]

I’m curious where should we go for good food in Penang?

Checked in Vistana 3 bedrooms apartment {RM345/night}

It was a long day.

<Yawn>

Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri!!

Woke up @ 8am → House chores!!

*Sparkling clean*

Drove to my hometown to fetch my parents to return to PJ @ 11ish am

{Strangely, PLUS highway at this time was quite car crowded}

Note : It has been more than 30 years my father last visited to other states except Malacca.

I’m very looking forward to this trip we planned for my parents & 大姑 [papa’s 1st younger sister] because it’s a good opportunity to know more about them {papa especially because as a typical Chinese father figure, he doesn’t really reveal verbally what he feels/what he thinks, it’s through close observation I get to know more about him.}

Left Muar @ 5pm

{with lots of medium size duffles, brother was teasing mom about that.}

Reached Putrajaya @ 6:30pm

[Excitedly showing papa around the quiet Putrajaya, stopped by Masjid Putra <The Putra Mosque>which I found out father really not that keen about it]

Reached 大姑 place @ 7ish pm

<Dinner time>

Together with 大姑, we came back to our nest.

<Resting>

[Still prefer the one @ Salt & Pepper]

See you again Cochin International Airport!!

It’s much organized & clean compared to Calcutta International airport.

Ready to take off PEOPLE??

Nice view from above~

~Puffy~

Cruising across the Western Ghats {we think}...

It was a great trip spent with Sonu, I used to tell him that traveling with a best friend is much enjoyable than with a husband, but that’s proven wrong when he has become my very best friend, my true soul mate.

Looking forward to many more twosome trips, as much as many more groupie trips.

♥ Thanks Air Asia ♥

Let’s go for a ride!!

Standard

Happy Morning people!!

Breakfast @ 7:15am

Pick up for Country Boat Cruise @ 8am

[It takes 1 1/2 hrs to reach the ride destination {RS1100 = RM74.40/2x for 7 hours backwater house boat ride included vegetarian lunch}]

Waiting...can we go now?

Finally, the ride is here!! Let's go!!

One man's trash is another man's treasure #1

[Clams are removed & sold, clamshells are collected to be roasted for some hours {arghh, I forgot how many}, pour water to the roasted clamshells, they’ll turn into white powder in no time. It can be used as an ingredient for white paint, cement, plaster of Paris {that’s all we can remember}].

Time to get drunk drop by drop with Todi~

Todi is an alcoholic beverage made from the sap of the coconut tree, it has quite high % of alcohol level.

One man's trash is another man's treasure #2

Coconut husks being soaked by the riverbank secured by a net for 6 months [if I remember correctly] to soften the fiber, which then being used to make coir rope {the ladies in the picture above being paid RS2 = RM0.13 for a double twisted coir rope, which being sold RS9 = RM0.60 each in the India market}.

A short small boat ride...

Man, this yellow shirt guy talked non stop.

Boatman #1

My favorite boatman, a quiet one, & I was upset of not tipping him.

Boatman #2

It’s not an easy job to be a boatman for tourists, you have to keep going under the sun or in the rain.

Totally relaxing~

Both of us took a good nap during the slow peaceful ride…

I want a small boat for my birthday!! {costs about RS5000 = RM338}...

🙂 Thanks Sonu 🙂

Left for Noah’s Ark home stay @ 3:30pm

[Reached around 5pm, released a tank of fluid…AHHH…:-p]

Cheena vala @ Fort Kochi

Uncle Jerry dropped us at Chinese Fishing Net @ 5:30pm

[It’s said to be the only place outside of China having these Chinese Fishing Nets, & fishermen are still using them.]

How many Chinese fishing nets are there? Hmmm...

My newfound friend responded to my Malaysian "zuuut".

Time stands still...

Because of the next program in our super tight schedule, we had to rush!!

~Tata~

[Performers make up session started @ 5:30pm]

Kathakali performer

think think think...what's this dance?

[Sonu & I really have forgotten what is this performer’s dance form…something meant to put us in the trance?? Yes, he did manage to scare my heart out!!]

In the cultural museum...

[If only we have more time to read through everything in the museum, if only our camera didn’t die on us before the performances. If only.]

Dinner @ Noah’s Ark home stay

[Auntie Diana bought some shrimps, fish, squids to help cook for us!!]

Yummy stomach for a great night Zzzzz

A peaceful strike day~

Lovely breakfast by the lovely couple...

VERY Good Morning!!! [it’s EARLY, trust me]

Breakfast time @ Noah’s Ark home stay

Left for Kodanad elephant camp @ 6:30-6:45am

Mahouts bathing the elephants....

Reached around 8ish am, we weren’t allowed to bathe the elephants & ride them as we thought we would able to, that’s not a big deal, but I definitely don’t like to see them chained. [RS29 = RM2/2x for entry fee, camera]

Salute!!

Namaskar~

In the elephant camp, there are also other animals kept, awaiting for their release to habitat conservation.

You wanna mess with me??

Wassup people??

Mama, wait for me...

Bye Bye animals…

Left for Athirapally – Vazhachal falls [lost track of the time {RS40 = RM2.70/2x for entry fee & camera]

Anxiously waiting...

Dinner @ Salt and Pepper along Princess street [across Preethi grocery store]

[THUMBS UP for its Butter Chicken & Kerala paratha!! Manchurian fish is so-so~]

I think I found Malaysian roti canai's big brother...

~BURP~

[Well spent of RS325 = RM22/2x for 1 Butter Chicken, 1 Manchurian fish {or did we order some other fish dish, why do I keep thinking we ate Manchurian fish}, 2 Kerala paratha, 1 Jeera rice, 1 Coke]

Went to see “Chinese Fishing Net” in the dark [basically, you can’t really see it!!].

Being invited by a fisherman [normally this is how they earn their pocket money -> tip] “onto” his fishing net “deck”, feeling so “chicken” that I might fall into the water, no kidding!!

Sat for awhile, walked carefully in the dark back to the shore.

Yes, he got RS20 {= RM1.35} tip.

Nope, he didn’t ask for it.

It was a beautiful day to strike.

Immigration @ 1:45pm

MYS, see you in 3 1/3 days!! @ 3:30pm [supposedly 2:50pm, anyways]

¹Marry Brown has way TOO MANY CHOICES with the combination of KFC & McD options, nice chicken pieces but smaller in size -> Sonu said because the chicken wasn’t injected with growth hormone, hmmm….

Reached Cochin airport [ON TIME – I guess traffic wasn’t bad up there] @ 4:30pm [MYS time 7pm]

Hopped on an AC KSRTC bus heading to Fort Kochi @ 5:30pm [RS140/2x = RM9.45/2x]

Uncle Jerry dropped us to ²Dal Roti for dinner [{RS420 = RM28.40} great disappointment for Sonu]

Back to Noah’s Ark

Good Night!!!

²Dal Roti = recommended by Lonely Planet, chicken biryani tasted like fried rice with chicken pieces, mutton paratha was soaked in oil, spinach paneer did not have soft cottage cheese. In short, NOT AUTHENTIC, maybe suitable for foreigners.
